Michael Harrison researches the analysis of dependable interactive systems, techniques for their assessment and to aid their design at different levels of rigour. He is also interested in the nature and structure of dependability arguments, particularly but not exclusively, in relation to interactive systems.
Current research concerns the modelling of smart environments: modelling the interactive behaviour of mobile devices within them and modelling the flow of information within the environment in terms of whether it provides the right information to the right people at the right time. His research is now focussed on ambient mobile intelligence, extending analysis techniques to systems that will dominate our future. In this regard he works within an interdisciplinary framework.
